Making Moves Program (MMP) Overview:

The Making Moves program is expanding to three new counties in 2024! In addition to Westchester, Long Island and Buffalo, Making Moves is now helping families in Orange, Dutchess and Tompkins counties expand their housing options to neighborhoods in "well-resourced areas," in order to expand access to economic mobility, high-performing schools, job opportunities and other positive long-term outcomes.

Making Moves provides one-on-one personal assistance to both tenants and landlords, as well as financial incentives and security deposits. This program is an excellent opportunity to tap into resources that could make a significant positive impact on your family, or your tenant's life.

Key Features:

For Families:

Helps Section 8 voucher holders move to well-resourced neighborhoods with good schools.
Mobility coaches listen to what your family needs and works with you one-one-one to provide:
- housing search assistance,
- neighborhoods information,
- financial counseling,
- application assistance,
- landlord outreach,
- security deposits, and more.

For Landlords:

A direct point of contact to call with questions about Section 8 processes
Financial incentives
Security deposit direct from the program
A stable rent source
Units must be in areas designated by the programs below as well-resourced.
Helps families access safe and stable housing that allows their children to thrive.

Eligibility:

The family must have a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) in one of the eligible service areas, listed below.
There must be at least one child under 18 in the family.
