New York State Homes and Community Renewal’s Office of Resilient Homes and Communities (RHC) announced a proposed amendment to its Hurricane Ida Action Plan, a $68 million initiative that RHC is administering to help households recover from Hurricane Ida. The public can submit comments regarding the proposal via webform, by emailing [email protected], or through mail addressed to the Office of Resilient Homes and Communities, ATTN: Public Comments, 641 Lexington Avenue, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10022 by April 13 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern time.
The proposed amendment adds homeownership assistance and moving assistance components to RHC’s Hurricane Ida Renters Safe Housing Incentive program. The program will be available to eligible renters who were impacted by Hurricane Ida in September 2021. Eligible renters will have the opportunity to apply for financial assistance to purchase a home, to relocate to safer rental homes, and/or to help with moving costs.
The program will be open to households earning up to 80 percent of their Area Median Income, or households earning up to 160 percent of their Area Median Income and who are considered vulnerable populations or historically disadvantaged members of a protected class. Applicants must have lived in a disaster-declared county outside of New York City.
