"As we focus on our post-pandemic economic recovery, we need to do everything in our power to help New Yorkers stay in their homes. New York has been a model for getting relief to those still struggling, and I am proud that we are the first state in the nation to receive U.S. Treasury approval for the Homeowner Assistance Fund program, which will ultimately distribute nearly $539 million to assist homeowners who are at the greatest risk of foreclosure or displacement.
"In advance of this approval, we have been preparing an implementation plan to swiftly assist low- and moderate-income, socially disadvantaged homeowners, and we will soon unveil a statewide outreach campaign to provide critical information to at-risk homeowners so they are ready to apply as soon as the application window opens.
"Our team has been and will remain in close communication with lenders, servicers, and municipal tax authorities, co-operators, and manufactured home owners to ensure this program is successful and that this funding is distributed to New Yorkers in need."
