A Look Back at 2016. As the year draws to a close, we wanted to share some of HCR’s 2016 highlights and accomplishments. For the third year in a row New York will break the state record for affordable housing production by financing the creation or preservation of more than 17,000 homes.
Commissioner Visnauskas previously served as HCR's Executive Deputy Commissioner for Housing Development, where she was responsible for strategic leadership and oversight of all housing and finance programs.
The recently enacted state budget delivered $2.5 billion for affordable housing, putting us well on our way to fund Governor Cuomo's $20 billion comprehensive, five-year plan to create or preserve 100,000 new affordable and 6,000 supportive housing units across the State. This financial commitment will enable us to do more than ever before for those facing housing insecurity or homelessness than ever before.
The awards, totaling up to $30 million, are part of the Governor's $2.6 Billion, 5-Year plan to develop 6,000 units of Supportive Housing. Governor Cuomo said, "With the second round of awards, we help to ensure that all New Yorkers have stable housing and an opportunity to lead fulfilling and productive lives."
Commissioner Visnauskas, Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick, and partners celebrated the opening of 210 Hancock Street, which includes a 4-story building and five townhomes for a total of 59 rental homes.
